In this interview excerpt, Josep Borrell, a Member of the Spanish Parliament (1996–2004), a Member of the Convention on the Future of Europe (2002–2003) and President of the European Parliament (2004–2007), remembers the enthusiasm that prevailed among the Members of the Convention, the perception by European citizens of the risks of globalisation and the disenchantment that followed the rejection of the Constitution for Europe.
