On 13 May 1957, Jean Monnet, President of the Action Committee for the United States of Europe (ACUSE), sends a letter to Cornelius Wilhelmus van Wingerden, Chairman of the Dutch Trade Union Federation and member of ACUSE, in which he calls for the prompt ratification of the Treaties establishing the European Economic Community (EEC) and the European Atomic Energy Community (EAEC or Euratom), signed on 25 March 1957 in Rome by the representatives of the six Member States of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC).

On 21 December 1954, Jean Monnet, President of the ECSC High Authority, welcomes the signing of the cooperation agreement between the United Kingdom and the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC).

In his reply, four days after receiving Jean Monnet’s letter dated 1 August 1952, Jacques Camille Paris, Secretary-General of the Council of Europe, assures the future first President of the High Authority that the ECSC Assembly will have complete autonomy concerning decisions on its future, without the services of the Council of Europe having any influence thereon.

In a letter dated 14 August 1952, Jacques Camille Paris, Secretary-General of the Council of Europe, sends to Jean Monnet, President of the High Authority of the ECSC, a list of the services which the Secretariat-General of the Council of Europe can provide for the Common Assembly of the ECSC, on the occasion of its inaugural session on 10 September in Strasbourg.

On 19 August 1950, Jean Monnet sends a telegram to Pierre Pflimlin, Agriculture Minister in the Pleven Government, warning him of the dangers of an ill-prepared initiative with regard to the plan to create a common market for agricultural markets in Europe.

On 27 November 2012, Cristina Blanco Sío-López, Researcher in European Studies at the CVCE, gave a lecture at the University of Bologna’s Jean Monnet Centre for European Studies in Forlì entitled ‘A more Mediterranean Europe: Spanish accession to the European Community’.

On 26 July 1955, Jean Monnet, former President of the High Authority of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) and the future founder and President of the Action Committee for a United States of Europe (ACUSE), drafts a memorandum which sets out the position that the French Delegation adopted on nuclear energy during the negotiations of the Intergovernmental Conference established by the Messina Conference.
