On 20–21 June 2013, Dr Cristina Blanco Sío-López, Researcher in European Integration Studies at the CVCE, took part in the Jean Monnet International Conference ‘The European Communities and the World’, organised by Prof. Giuliana Laschi, holder of the Jean Monnet Chair ad personam at the University of Bologna and Visiting Researcher at the CVCE in April and May 2013.

Cristina Blanco Sío-López, Researcher in European Integration Studies, and Penelope Frangakis, Scientific Collaborator at the CVCE, presented their respective research papers at the 2013 Jean Monnet Seminar ‘Europe from outside - The Atlantic Ocean, the Pacific Ocean, the Indian Ocean’, organised at the University of Siegen by Prof. Raphaela Averkorn (ad personam Jean Monnet Chair) on 22 and 23 February 2013.

On 22 January 1972, in an interview for RTL radio in Paris, Jean Monnet refers to the origins of the Schuman Plan.

On 30 July 1950, Jean Monnet, Chairman of the Paris Conference on the Schuman Plan and Head of the French delegation, and Walter Hallstein, Head of the German delegation, discuss the position of the various delegations and the progress of the work. Jean Monnet proposes that the conference be adjourned until 12 August so as to give the respective governments an opportunity to analyse the interim report on the progress made.

Speech by Jean Monnet, President of the High Authority from 1952 to 1955, delivered at the first meeting of the ECSC Consultative Committee, held on 26 January 1953 in the Hôtel de Ville, Luxembourg. In the weeks preceding the establishment of the common market in coal and steel, Jean Monnet asks, on behalf of the High Authority, for the opinion of the Consultative Committee regarding the new price systems to be introduced in the Community. The High Authority would then take decisions with a view to abolishing discrimination and protection arrangements in the six founding countries, which constitute a barrier to the movement of products.

On 11 September 1952, Jean Monnet, President of the High Authority of the ECSC, opens the inaugural session of the Common Assembly with an address in which he sets out the role of the first Community institutions and emphasises the importance of establishing a single market in Europe.

On 22 April 1953, Karl Gruber, Austrian Foreign Minister, officially informs Jean Monnet, President of the High Authority of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC), of the Austrian Government’s decision to appoint an Austrian Permanent Delegation, led by Carl Bobleter, to the High Authority in Luxembourg.

On 24 July 1957, Pierre Uri, Director of the General Economy Division of the High Authority of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC), draws up a note addressed to Jean Monnet, President of the Action Committee for the United States of Europe (ACUSE), in which he sets out a series of arguments in favour of the institutions of the ECSC, the European Economic Community (EEC) and the European Atomic Energy Community (Euratom) sharing a single seat.

On 27 April 1955, Franz Etzel, German Vice-President of the High Authority of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC), informs Jean Monnet of a meeting with Alfred Müller-Armack, adviser to Ludwig Erhard, West German Minister for Economic Affairs, in which he distances himself from Erhard’s views on Europe.

With a view to enabling the ECSC Common Assembly to begin its work independently, Jean Monnet, President of the High Authority, informs Jacques Camille Paris, Secretary-General of the Council of Europe, on 15 August 1952, of his decision to set up a temporary Preparatory Committee, consisting of officials from the national parliaments of the six Member States of the Community, to be responsible for organising the first session of the Assembly in Strasbourg.
