On 19 May 1953, in Luxembourg, Jean Monnet, President of the High Authority of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC), welcomes the members of the Austrian Delegation to the High Authority and welcomes the rapprochement between Vienna and the ECSC Member States.

On 21 June 1950, the day after the opening of negotiations on the Schuman Plan in Paris, Jean Monnet, Chairman of the conference and Head of the French delegation, receives the members of the German delegation to discuss certain points of the plan which are of particular concern to the Federal Republic of Germany.

The Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) joins the Action Committee for a United States of Europe (ACUSE) as soon as it is established in October 1955. Willy Brandt (right), who became leader of the SPD in 1964, and Jean Monnet (standing), founder of ACUSE, at the 12th session of the Committee, held on 8 and 9 May 1965 in Berlin.

On 8 September 1952, Jean Monnet, President of the ECSC High Authority, replies to the opening address delivered by the German Chancellor, Konrad Adenauer, who, as President of the ECSC Special Council of Ministers, inaugurates its first meeting.

On 30 April 1953, on the eve of the opening of the common market for steel, Jean Monnet, President of the High Authority of the ECSC, expresses his satisfaction with the existence of a large European market of 150 million consumers.

In a speech delivered during the inaugural session of the ECSC Court of Justice, the President of the High Authority, Jean Monnet, describes how the institution fits into the operational structure of the ECSC and outlines its role. He particularly stresses the supranational character of the tasks incumbent upon this new-style court of justice.
