On 26 May 1970, Jean Monnet, President of the Action Committee for the United States of Europe (ACUSE), sends a letter to Pierre Werner, Luxembourg Minister of State, Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, in which he shares his observations concerning the interim report to the Council and the Commission on the achievement by stages of economic and monetary union.

On 20 July 1970, Jean Monnet, President of the Action Committee for the United States of Europe, sends Karl Schiller, German Minister for the Economy, a copy of the letter that he sent to the members of the Action Committee for the United States of Europe concerning the question of fixed and floating exchange rates, as well as a report on economic and monetary union drafted by monetary specialist Professor Robert Triffin.

On 30 April 1953, Jean Monnet, President of the High Authority of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC), prepares with his team for the press conference that he will hold the same day in Luxembourg to announce the official opening of the common market in steel the following day. In this private interview, Archduke Otto von Habsburg-Lothringen, President of the International Paneuropean Union, distinguishes Jean Monnet’s technocratic vision of a united Europe from the more visionary perception of Richard Coudenhove-Kalergi, founder of the Paneuropean Union.

On 11 November 1980, in an interview granted to journalist Roger Massip, Bernard Clappier, former Head of the Private Office of French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman, describes the circumstances in which the Schuman Plan was prepared in 1950 and outlines the role played by Jean Monnet.

On 14 August 1962, Jean Monnet, President of the Action Committee for the United States of Europe, sends a letter to J. G. van Wouwe, leader of the Netherlands Trade Union Federation, in which he expresses his regret at the interruption of the negotiations for the United Kingdom’s accession to the European Economic Community (EEC).

On 8 November 1956, following the meeting of Foreign Ministers of the six Member States of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) held in Paris on 20 and 21 October, Jean Monnet, President of the Action Committee for the United States of Europe (ACUSE), informs Hendrik Oosterhuis, Chairman of the Dutch Trade Union Federation and member of the Committee, of the positive action taken by the Committee in breaking the deadlock in the negotiations on the establishment of the Common Market and Euratom.
