On 2 March 1962, British Prime Minister, Harold Macmillan, sends a letter to the President of the ECSC Special Council of Ministers in which he confirms the United Kingdom's desire to open diplomatic negotiations with a view to acceding to the Community.

Am 7. Februar 1953 beschließt der Besondere Ministerrat der EGKS in Anwendung von Artikel 10 der vorläufigen Geschäftsordnung die Einsetzung eines Koordinationsausschusses (Cocor). Er soll die Tagungen des Rates vorbereiten und Untersuchungen und Arbeiten durchführen, mit denen der Rat ihn beauftragt.
