In a letter dated 1 May 1964 and sent to the British Prime Minister, Alec Douglas-Home, the Malaysian Prime Minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman, welcomes the forthcoming independence of Malawi (formerly Nyasaland) on 6 July 1964 and expresses his country’s support for Malawi’s future membership of the Commonwealth and the United Nations.
