On 18 April 1989, the Spanish daily newspaper El País analyses the impact of the economic and monetary union (EMU) propounded by Jacques Delors, President of the European Commission, on the functioning of the European Communities.

In a paper published on the website of the ‘Notre Europe’ think tank on 18 May 2009, Francisco Roa Bastos investigates ‘political parties at European level’, a type of political organisation that is still relatively unfamiliar. These ‘Europarties’, often confused with the political groups in the European Parliament, are recognised by the Maastricht Treaty and two Community regulations under which they have enjoyed their own status and funding since 2003.

On 14 December 1992, two days after the Edinburgh European Council, the French daily newspaper Le Monde comments on the thorny issue of the financing of the Community budget and analyses the precise financing plan proposed by Jacques Delors, President of the European Commission.

At a press conference, Jacques Delors, President of the Commission of the European Communities, officially presents the new Members of the Commission who were appointed on 5 January 1986: Manuel Marín González, Vice-President for Social Affairs and Employment, Education and Training, Abel Matutes y Juan, responsible for Credit, Investment and Financial Engineering and Policy for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises, and António Cardoso e Cunha, responsible for Fisheries Policy. Manuel Marín González particularly discusses the priorities of the European Social Fund, while Abel Matutes y Juan focuses his speech on policies to support small and medium-sized enterprises within the Community.

The CVCE, in cooperation with ‘Notre Europe – Institut Jacques Delors’ and the National Foundation for Political Science (FNSP-Sciences Po), has developed a file on Tommaso Padoa-Schioppa (1940–2010) with the aim of providing new insight into his personality, his approach and his contribution to European and international economic and monetary affairs over the past 40 years.

On 28 April 1989, Neil Kinnock, Leader of the Labour Party, criticises the European policy of Margaret Thatcher, British Prime Minister, who does not hesitate to attack Jacques Delors, President of the European Commission.

On 28 April 2005, in an article for the French weekly newspaper Le Nouvel Observateur, Jacques Delors, former President of the European Commission, rejects the arguments often put forward by supporters of the ‘No’ vote in the campaign for the referendum in France on the Treaty establishing a Constitution for Europe.
