On 8 May 1956, at the end of the Geneva Tariff Conference, Austria and the High Authority of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) sign two agreements: a protocol on an anti-dumping clause on trade in steel outside the framework of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) and a tariff agreement on the reduction of customs duties under the GATT.

On 11 May 1950, in a statement to the House of Commons, the British Prime Minister, Clement Attlee, expresses his thoughts on the Schuman Plan and confirms his support for the French proposal.

On 3 June 1950, the British Government publishes a communiqué setting out its position on the Schuman Declaration on the pooling of coal and steel output in Western Europe.

In July 1950, as negotiations on the Schuman Plan are held, the Belgian monthly bulletin Courrier métallurgique reports on the debate over the powers of the High Authority.

In its September–October 1951 edition, the Revue Franco–Belge, official mouthpiece of the Belgian Chamber of Commerce in Paris, publishes an article by Pierre van der Rest, chief representative of the Steelworkers’ Committee, which analyses the socio-economic impact of the Schuman Plan on industry in Belgium.

On 8 August 1952, on the eve of the inaugural session of the ECSC High Authority in Luxembourg, the Bulletin des Presse- und Informationsamtes der Bundesregierung reports on the activities to be undertaken by the new organisation.

On 10 August 1952, during the inaugural session of the ECSC High Authority in Luxembourg, Paolo Emilio Taviani, Italian under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, highlights the importance of the Schuman Plan in achieving European unity.

On 10 December 1952, in Luxembourg, Jean Monnet, President of the High Authority of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC), opens the inaugural session of the Court of Justice of the ECSC.

On 21 December 1954, Jean Monnet, President of the ECSC High Authority, welcomes the signing of the cooperation agreement between the United Kingdom and the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC).
