Preparatory work for the ‘Pierre Werner and Europe’ research project

The project led to the production of a range of preparatory work that represents a vital part of the research process, including:

• an extensive bibliography of works by and about Pierre Werner, particularly focusing on the Werner Plan;

• a selection of speeches, lectures, addresses, public statements and other previously unpublished texts by Pierre Werner on the European integration process and on economic and monetary questions;

• a chronology from the 1950s onwards on ‘Pierre Werner and monetary Europe’, highlighting the various stages of monetary integration and the role of Luxembourg and its eminent figures in the European integration process;

• a selection of photos, most of which are published here for the first time, which give an overview of Pierre Werner’s long and fruitful public career, illustrating his European vocation, the major events in the European integration process in which he played an active role and the people who worked alongside him, and providing an insight into his personality.
