On 14 March 2016, the CVCE took part in the closing session of the European project SMILE — Sharing Messina Ideal a Lesson for all Europe, which was held at the headquarters of the European Economic and Social Committee in Brussels.

In connection with the European project SMILE, ‘Sharing Messina Ideal a Lesson for all Europe’, an academic meeting about the 1955 Messina Conference was held on 5 June 2015 in Messina.

From 3 to 6 June 2015, the CVCE and its partners in the European project SMILE — ‘Sharing Messina Ideal a Lesson for all Europe’ were involved in the conference to mark the 60th anniversary of the 1955 Messina Conference: ‘Messina — Europa — Mediterraneo’.

On 19 May 2015, the CVCE awarded a prize to the winner of the competition organised in connection with the European project SMILE, Sharing Messina Ideal a Lesson for all Europe, which was set up to mark the 60th anniversary of the Messina Conference in June 1955.

On 15 and 16 January 2015, Susana Muñoz and Marco Gabellini (CVCE) attended the launch meeting of the S.M.I.L.E. project. S.M.I.L.E. — Sharing Messina Ideal a Lesson for all Europe — is a European partnership supported by the European Commission’s ‘Europe for Citizens’ Programme.
