Surrender of Japan (Tokyo Bay, 2 September 1945)
Image The act of surrender of Japan, which officially ends the Second World War, is signed on 2 September 1945 on board the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay. The Japanese Foreign Minister Mamoru Shigemitsu, accompanied by Toshikazu Kase (on the right), signs the Japanese surrender. At the other side of the table is Lieutenant General Richard K. Sutherland, Chief of Staff to General MacArthur.
