Conclusions of the Spanish Presidency of the European Community held during the first six months of 1989, presented at the Madrid European Council of 26 and 27 June 1989 and particularly dominated by the Single Act, the internal market, the elections to the European Parliament and European Political Cooperation.

The Organising Committee of the Spanish Presidency of the European Union publishes the programme of the second Spanish Presidency of the European Union (first semester of 1995) entitled ‘Priorities of the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union’. The four major areas for action are the economic revival of Europe in a socially integrated framework, citizen participation, external relations and the planning of the 1996 Intergovernmental Conference.

The programme for the Spanish Presidency during the first six months of 2002 is presented by the Spanish State Secretary for the European Union; entitled ‘More Europe. Programme of the Spanish Presidency of the European Union’, this document sets out the circumstances and priorities of the Presidency, which was to be particularly dominated by the entry into circulation of the single currency, the EU’s enlargement to the East and the international climate following the attacks of 11 September 2001.
