On 12 June 1985, at the Royal Palace of Madrid, King Juan Carlos I delivers an address during the ceremony held to mark the signing of Spain’s Treaty of Accession to the European Communities.

In spring 1992, in an article published in the Spanish magazine Política Exterior, Carlos Westendorp, Junior Minister in the Spanish Ministry for European Affairs, outlines the challenges which will arise when the single market becomes a reality in 1993.

On 28 July 1977, at the Egmont Palace, Brussels, Marcelino Oreja Aguirre, Spanish Foreign Minister, officially submits the application for accession to the European Communities in the form of three letters sent by Adolfo Suárez González, Spanish Prime Minister, to Henri Simonet, Belgian Foreign Minister and President-in-Office of the Council of the European Communities.

In 1977, in Brussels, Adolfo Suárez González, Spanish Prime Minister, holds a press conference at the Commission of the European Communities in the presence of Marcelino Oreja Aguirre, Spanish Foreign Minister, to reaffirm the desire of the Spanish government and people to join the European Communities, particularly referring to the notion of solidarity and support for the free movement of workers.

On 23 January 1978, in Strasbourg, Marcelino Oreja Aguirre, Spanish Foreign Minister, informs the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe of the progress made by Spain and its citizens in the country's process of democratisation.

On 6 October 1958, the Undersecretary at the Spanish Foreign Ministry writes to the Spanish Ambassador to Rome to indicate the Spanish Government’s interest in the action taken by the Ambassador in order to gain Italy’s support for Spain’s application to join the OEEC Intergovernmental Committee.
