Am 9. Mai 1950 schlägt der französische Außenminister Robert Schuman der Bundesrepublik Deutschland (BRD) und anderen europäischen Staaten vor, ihre Kohle- und Stahlressourcen in einer gemeinsamen europäischen Organisation zusammenzulegen. Seine Rede wurde von Jean Monnet inspiriert.

Am 9.
