On 13 February 1953, at the end of its first working session in Copenhagen, the Nordic Council adopts nine Recommendations designed to facilitate cooperation between its Member States in the fields of economic activity, communications, health, social security, cultural cooperation and the free movement of persons.
In 1957, Frantz Wilhelm Wendt, Secretary-General of the Danish delegation to the Nordic Council, gives an account of the development in relations between the Member States of the Nordic Council and outlines the decisions adopted at the end of its inaugural meeting in Copenhagen on 13 February 1953.
On 30 October 1955, in the wake of the Finnish Parliament’s vote in favour of accession to the Nordic Council, the French newspaper Combat emphasises the strategic importance of Finland to the Soviet Union.
