Le 3 juillet 1956, le Premier ministre britannique Anthony Eden prend position par rapport aux futures relations entre la Côte-de-l'Or et le Commonwealth. En effet, au cas où la Côte-de-l'Or deviendrait indépendante, Anthony Eden approuverait l'adhésion du pays au Commonwealth.
