Example of funding by the Structural Funds: construction of the Alqueva dam (1999)
Image From 1997 to 2000, the European Community, in connection with the Specific Integrated Development Programme for the Alqueva Area in the south-east of Portugal, cofunds the construction of the largest dam in Europe on the River Guadiana. This specific programme, which is part of the Alentejo Region Operational Programme, uses the Structural Funds and the Cohesion Fund.
