At the forum The origins of and developments in European governance: the impact of the Treaty of Rome establishing the European Economic Community (March 1957) organised on 23 and 24 April 2007 by the Pierre Werner Institute in Luxembourg, Philippe de Schoutheete, former Permanent Representative of Belgium to the Council of the European Union, and Jean-Jacques Kasel, former Permanent Representative of Luxembourg to the Council of the European Union and current Member of the Court of Justice of the European Communities, look at the quality of the Rome Treaties signed in 1957 and consider the difficulties associated with the amendments to these treaties from 1985 onwards.
