On 18 April 1959, the High Authority of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) forwards to the Council of Ministers details of its action plan to confront the coal crisis affecting the Six.

On 10 August 1952, the High Authority of the ECSC begins its work in Luxembourg. The Information and Press Office of the Luxembourg Government gives an account of the day's events. This account includes a speech given by Jean Monnet at the first session of the High Authority, as well as speeches given by Émile Hamilius, Mayor of the City of Luxembourg, by Joseph Bech, Luxembourg Foreign Minister, and another by Jean Monnet at the welcoming ceremony organised by the Luxembourg authorities.

Sent to Jean Monnet, President of the ECSC High Authority, this memorandum from the three working parties on housing shortages summarises the situation and the means to counter the housing shortage for manual workers in the six Member States.

On 30 December 1955, L. Giretti, senior official at the High Authority of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC), gives a progress report on the economic and tariff negotiations between the ECSC and Austria.

On 9 June 1955, during a radio broadcast on the occasion of his resignation from the post of President of the High Authority of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC), Jean Monnet emphasises the importance of the Common Market and of the United States of Europe for the future of all Europeans.

On 28 June 1967, the High Authority of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) meets for the last time in Luxembourg. On 1 July, the Treaty — signed in Brussels on 8 April 1965 — whereby the executive bodies of the ECSC, the European Economic Community (EEC) and the European Atomic Energy Community (EAEC) were merged enters into force. The Single Commission will hold its first meeting in Brussels on 6 July with the Belgian, Jean Rey, in the chair.

Appointed by the Six at the Conference held in Messina, Italy, in June 1955, the Frenchman, René Meyer, succeeds his compatriot, Jean Monnet, who resigned in late 1954, as President of the High Authority of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC), seen here at a conference in Luxembourg.
