On 16 June 1952, the Italian Chamber of Deputies ratifies the Treaty establishing the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) despite hostile opposition from the Communists and from some Socialists.

On 13 October 1951, only the Communist members of parliament are hostile towards the Treaty establishing the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC), submitted for parliamentary ratification by the Netherlands Government.

On 6 July 1961, the United Kingdom and New Zealand issue a joint statement giving an outline of the discussions between Duncan Sandys, British Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations, and his New Zealand counterparts, on the implications of the United Kingdom’s possible membership of the European Communities.

On 9 August 1950, commenting on the geopolitical implications of the Korean War from the platform of the Consultative Assembly of the Council of Europe, the Frenchman, Paul Reynaud, urges European countries to organise their common defence.

On 11 July 1961, Duncan Sandys, British Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations, visits Australia for discussions on the economic implications of the United Kingdom’s accession to the European Economic Community.

Paul-Henri Spaak, President of the Common Assembly of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) from 1952 to 1954 and President of the Intergovernmental Committee which, between July 1955 and June 1956, laid the foundations for the future European Economic Community (EEC) and European Atomic Energy Community (EAEC or Euratom).
