Note from the French Ministry of the Colonies on the Brazzaville Conference (28 February 1944)

On 28 February 1944, the Political Affairs Directorate of the French Ministry of the Colonies sends a note to the Provisional Consultative Assembly of the French Committee for National Liberation (CFLN) outlining the results of the Brazzaville Conference. Several recommendations were made at the end of this conference between the governors of the colonies, including the abolition of the colonial régime de l’indigénat and forced labour, the maintenance of traditional institutions, access for natives to all jobs, the establishment of local assemblies and representation of the colonies in the future Constituent Assembly.
