In this interview excerpt, Joseph Weyland, Permanent Representative of Luxembourg to the European Communities from 1984 to 1991, Chairman of the Committee for Political Union at the Intergovernmental Conference that led to the Treaty of Maastricht in 1991, General Secretary in the Luxembourg Foreign Ministry from 1991 to 1992, Ambassador to London from 1993 to 2002, Ambassador to Brussels and Permanent Representative to the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) from 2003 to 2005, and Ambassador to Washington from 2005 to 2009, discusses his family background, his youth and his studies in law and political science at the Paris Institute of Political Science (in the public finance section). He also shares his memories of the student demonstrations in France in 1968.
