Interview with Giuliano Amato (Rome, 15 October 2012) — Excerpt: Tommaso Padoa-Schioppa: a great public servant

In this interview excerpt, Giuliano Amato, President of the Italian Council from 1992 to 1993 and 2000 to 2001 and Interior Minister from 2006 to 2008, outlines the circumstances in which he met Tommaso Padoa-Schioppa. Amato also discusses the role that Padoa-Schioppa, Deputy Director General of the Bank of Italy from 1984 to 1997, played alongside him during the Italian financial crisis in 1992. Finally, he sets out the reasons why Padoa-Schioppa did not become Governor of the Bank of Italy after Carlo Azeglio Ciampi in 1993.
