Herman Van Rompuy
Image On 19 November 2009, Herman Van Rompuy was appointed by the Heads of State or Government of the European Union as the first permanent President of the European Council, as from 1 December 2009. On 1 March 2012, he was re-elected for a second two-and-a-half year term, from 1 June 2012 to 30 November 2014.
