On 8 July 2008, festivities are held in Brussels to mark the enlargement of the euro zone to include Slovakia on 1 January 2009. From left to right: Lucas Papademos (Vice-President of the European Central Bank), Joaquín Almunia (European Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs), Christine Lagarde (French Minister for the Economy, Industry and Employment and President-in-Office of the Council) and Ján Počiatek (Slovakian Finance Minister).
