On 29 August 1948, the Italian daily newspaper Il nuovo Corriere della Sera publishes an article by Count Carlo Sforza, Italian Foreign Minister, in which he emphasises the importance for his fellow citizens to work actively towards the unification of the European continent so as to guard against the dangers of a new war.
