Text On 3 and 4 December 1957, as debates are held in the First Chamber of the Netherlands on the ratification of the Treaty establishing the European Economic Community (EEC), most of the senators, except for Harm van Riel and Geert de Grooth, are in favour of ratification, despite the treaty’s failure to meet certain Dutch requirements
