Text On 16 March 1950, at a press conference held at the Quai d'Orsay, General de Gaulle recognises the need for Franco-German cooperation and welcomes Federal Chancellor Konrad Adenauer's proposal for a union between France and the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG).
