Cartoon by Behrendt on the outcome of the Vietnam War (23 April 1975)

‘Liberated.’ On 23 April 1975, Fritz Behrendt, a Dutch cartoonist originally from Berlin, illustrates the imminent entry of troops from North Vietnam and the Viet Cong into Saigon and paints an ironic picture of the future ‘liberation’ of the country by the communists. The fall of Saigon on 30 April led to the collapse of the South Vietnamese regime and brought about the end of the Vietnam War.
