‘Those were the days’. On 4 June 1966, Fritz Behrendt, a Dutch cartoonist originally from Berlin, offers an ironic depiction of Germany’s role on the international stage. Federal Chancellor Ludwig Erhard, depicted as Germania, pictures himself being courted by British Prime Minister Harold Wilson (on the left), French President de Gaulle and US President Lyndon B. Johnson (on the right).
