Address given by Peter Thorneycroft to the WEU Assembly (Paris, 4 December 1962)
Text On 4 December 1962, Peter Thorneycroft, British Minister of Defence, gives an address to the Assembly of Western European Union (WEU). He emphasises that the United Kingdom, as a European country, is deeply concerned with the defence of Europe, and emphasises the importance of establishing a common, effective instrument of defence for Europe. The minister discusses the need for European countries to work together on research and on the development of European armaments.
