On 27 July 1979, Pierre Werner, Minister of State and President of the Luxembourg Government, gives an address to the Luxembourg Chamber of Deputies on the government’s decision to make every effort to guarantee that the Luxembourg-based institutions and services of the European Communities remain in Luxembourg.

On 4 May 1983, Pierre Werner, Luxembourg Minister of State and President of the Government, gives a lecture in Fribourg for Europe Day entitled ‘The union of Europe — Plan and reality’, in which he discusses the origins and development of the European Communities as well as their challenges and prospects.

On 22 November 1983, Gaston Thorn, President of the Commission of the European Communities, gives an address at the Royal Institute for International Relations (IRRI) in Brussels in which he indicates the ways and means for Europe to escape from its economic, political and institutional deadlock.

At the interregional meeting organised by the European Movement Luxembourg on 16 March 1984, Pierre Werner, Luxembourg Minister of State and President of the Government, gives a lecture on the growth crisis facing the European Communities. He particularly discusses the origins of the crisis and makes various suggestions as to how it might be resolved.
