Telegram from Maurice Schumann to Roger Seydoux de Clausonne on cooperation between Iraq and the USSR in the oil sector (Paris, 27 June 1969)
Text On 27 June 1969, French Foreign Minister Maurice Schumann sends a telegram to Roger Seydoux de Clausonne, the French Ambassador to Moscow, on the opening of negotiations in Moscow between an Iraqi economic delegation and Soviet authorities. Maurice Schumann is concerned at the USSR’s growing influence in Iraq and is keen to prevent any new agreement between Iraq and the USSR concerning oil fields.
