Interview with Charles Goerens, Luxembourg Member of Parliament from 1979 to 1994 and from 2004 to 2009, Member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe from 1984 to 1994 and from 2004 to 2009, Member from 1984 to 1994 and from 2004 to 2009 and President from 1987 to 1990 of the Assembly of Western European Union, Minister for Cooperation, Humanitarian Action and Defence from 1999 to 2004 and Member of the European Parliament from 1982 to 1984, from 1994 to 1999 and since 2009, carried out by the Centre Virtuel de la Connaissance sur l’Europe (CVCE) on 28 September 2009 at the CVCE’s base at the Château de Sanem. The interview was conducted by Cédric Sangaletti, a Scientific Collaborator at the CVCE, and particularly focuses on the following subjects: the role, operation and development of the WEU Assembly after the revitalisation in 1984, the development of WEU and its Assembly after the Treaties of Maastricht (1992) and Amsterdam (1997), the institutional operation of WEU and the transfer of powers to the European Union (1999–2000), and the military operations led by WEU.
