On 22 December 1951, commenting on Paul-Henri Spaak’s resignation as President of the Consultative Assembly of the Council of Europe, the Austrian weekly newspaper Die österreichische Furche emphasises the need for European countries to make some sacrifices with regard to national sovereignty and the national economy in order to achieve unity in Europe.
