Interview with Édith Cresson, Member of the European Parliament from 1979 to 1981, French Minister for Agriculture from 1981 to 1983, Minister for Foreign Trade and Tourism from 1983 to 1984, Minister for Industrial Redeployment and Foreign Trade from 1984 to 1986, Minister for European Affairs from 1988 to 1990, Prime Minister from 1991 to 1992, European Commissioner for Science, Research, Development, Education and Training from 1994 to 1999 and Chair of the Fondation des écoles de la deuxième chance (Second Chance Schools’ Foundation) since 2001, carried out by the Centre Virtuel de la Connaissance sur l’Europe (CVCE) on 29 January 2008 at Édith Cresson’s office in Paris. The interview was conducted by Étienne Deschamps, a Researcher at the CVCE, and particularly focuses on the following subjects: the European Parliament from 1979 to 1981, France and the common agricultural policy, France’s trade policy and the European Economic Community, France’s influence in the European institutions, and Cresson’s experience at the European Commission from 1995 to 1999.
