‘Reims’. On 6 July 1962, Austrian cartoonist Paul Flora illustrates the meeting in Reims between Federal Chancellor Konrad Adenauer and French President Charles de Gaulle, whose monumental silhouettes form the two towers of the city’s cathedral. The handshake between the two leaders seals the reconciliation between France and Germany, while French and German troops parade peacefully together in front of the cathedral.
