Text On 1 July 1960, the Secretary-General of Western European Union (WEU) circulates to the Council a summary record of the meeting between the WEU Assembly’s Committee on Defence Questions and Armaments and Pierre Messmer, French Minister of the Armed Forces, in Paris on 30 May 1960. The questions put to Pierre Messmer cover France’s relations with the Atlantic Alliance, its contribution to the shield of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation and the strengthening of the shield, and the production, development and potential use of nuclear weapons.
