Image On 23 January 1993, 30 years after the signing of the Élysée Treaty, Fritz Behrendt, a Dutch cartoonist originally from Berlin, illustrates the historical development of relations between France and Germany. After the era of deadly wars between the former long-standing enemies (the Napoleonic Wars, the Franco-German War of 1870, the First World War (1914–1918) and the Second World War (1939–1945)), France and Germany have embarked on the path of reconciliation and cooperation.
