On 8 November 1971, Maurice Schumann, French Foreign Minister, gives an address during the debates on preparations for a summit meeting of the Heads of State or Government of the European Communities, to be held in 1972. In order to guarantee the success of this meeting, he believes that the Six must first restore their solidarity in the face of the monetary crisis and show their determination to pursue the deepening of the Communities and the development of a European economic and monetary union.
