This film, produced in May 2006, outlines the cooperation between the Member States of the European Union in justice and home affairs (JHA), a field in which the Council plays a leading role. The establishment of an area of freedom, security and justice requires the implementation of a common policy on immigration and asylum, effective police and judicial cooperation, a Union-wide fight against crime and coherent external action vis-à-vis third countries.
