In this interview excerpt, Michel Camdessus, financial attaché to the French Permanent Representation to the European Economic Community (EEC) from 1966 to 1968, discusses his work in this capacity, particularly on the harmonisation of VAT and the merger of the executive bodies of the Community institutions. He remembers the state of mind of the civil servants from EEC Member States working in Brussels at that time. He also particularly mentions Jean-Marc Boegner, French Permanent Representative to the EEC in Brussels from 1961 to 1972, and Robert Marjolin, Vice-President of the European Commission from 1958 to 1967.
